The Center of Innovation at East Orange is the 3-dimensional realization of a patient centered care environment reinforced by the architecture, interior design, art, furniture, administrators, and healthcare providers.
Located in a circa 1960 one story structure, the interior was fully redefined to support a cultural transformation to promote health, wellness, prevention, and healing.
The open-air courtyard is the key element in the design and the interior architecture utilized elements that allowed the natural light to penetrate all areas of the Center. Full-lite doors and large sidelights of transparent and transluscent glass are integrated throughout.
Stone, glass, maple wood, and bio-based materials create a comfortable palette. Where it was not possible to penetrate a space with natural light, transluscent “skylights” were utilized to give the perception of natural light.
In addition to the outdoor healing garden with a water feature, the Center has areas dedicated to yoga, meditation, acupuncture, veterans resource, exam, and women’s health. To support the integrated and collaborative medical team approach, a single team room was provided in lieu of private offices.
