ThinkForm designed approximately 10,907 sf of connecting corridor spaces for the Sousley Healthcare Campus. Understanding that many Veterans may have a visual impairment or may have incurred an injury that affects their depth perception, the floors and walls have a color contrast so there is a clear distinction where the wall stops and where the floor begins. Also, the patterns incorporated in the flooring reinforces wayfinding as a guide throughout the facility. Wayfinding design in the building provides a clear and consistent visual communication system with concise messaging enabling veterans and their families to navigate throughout with ease. Additional interior improvements include HVAC, electrical, mechanical modifications and fire protection upgrades as well as wall, ceiling and floor materials, handrails, and stairwells. Exterior improvements include envelope repairs, roofs, downspouts, gutters, and windows. The Campus is classified as a Historic District. As a guide to carry out historic preservation responsibilities pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act, we followed the Historic Preservation Plan for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center – Leestown Division.
