Located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Trenton, the design for twenty single family townhomes is the catalyst for redevelopment on East State Street.
The neighborhood master plan includes the creation of a new three-acre park across the street from the homes. The park location was chosen because of the adjacency to P.J. Hill Elementary School, allowing the children to enjoy the outdoor space without having to cross East State Street.
The site planning of the residential units maintains the main street frontage while creating green space in the back. All of the homes have the main entry facing East State Street and are handicap accessible.
Each home offers three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, and a basement. The exterior architecture incorporates the use of red brick, which is prominent throughout the city.
Each home will be occupied by a family whose income is less than fifty percent median income. The family will purchase the home for $25,000 to be paid back to Martin House, Better Community Housing of Trenton, over a twelve year period.
